Otztal Tourism Committee together with the Austriantourism office in Moscow
held a traditional presentation of Otztal's major ski resorts. Head of the tourist
office, Georg Kapush, noted that during the three summer months the tourist flow
from Russia increased by 20%,
yet 70% of Russian tourists still prefer to visit Austria in wintertime. Tyrol, especially Solden area, is one of the most popular destinations among skiers.
According to Karmen Fender, Head of marketing
in the Otztal tourism committee, the tourist flow from Russia is on the fourth place, giving way to tourists
from Germany, Switzerland and Austria. During the 2011/2012 winter
season Russian tourists booked more than 137 thousand nights in local hotels. That’s
a little more than 5% of the total bookings made by foreign visitors. Yet during
the summer the Russians booked only 3400 nights in Otztal. Most of the tourists
chose Mayrhofen and Solden, said Mrs. Fender.
