Macedonia waives visas for Russians for one year

08:07, 20 марта 2012

Macedonia unilaterally canceled the visa regime until March 15, 2013 for the citizens of Russian, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, said the Foreign Ministry. Guests can stay in the country for a maximum of 90 days within a six-month period.

Macedonia in order to increase the tourist flow cancelled visa requirements for Russians in 2010 and 2011, but during that period visa-free regime was limited by the tourist season.

Initiation of Macedonia’s visa-free regime for Russian citizens would have no impact on the Russian flow to this Balkan republic, which currently is negligible, told the Press Secretary of the Russian Union of Travel Industry Irina Tyurina to RIA "Novosti"

"Macedonia’s problem is not in visas but in the complete absence of strategies promoting the country in Russia. Neither we have a Macedonian tourism office, nor are advertising campaigns held. Unfortunately, after finding out about cancellation of visas most Russians will be searching for information about what this country is and how to get there for a long time, "- said Mrs. Tyurina.
