Russians to spend more on traveling

At the request of Visa a global survey Global Travel Intentions Study 2013 was conducted. 12631 tourists from 25 countries participated in it. According to the survey global average budget per trip will increase from the current $ 2,390 to $ 2,501 this year.

 

Residents of the Saudi Arabia are most willing to spend money (at an average $6666 on a trip). Australians ($4118) and the Chinese ($3824) follow them with a slight margin. The most significant expenses are expected on Asian markets where residents are planning to increase their holiday budget by 46% at an average. Tourists from Singapore, Thailand and Hong Kong are to spend at least twice more money on their next trip.

 

What concerns the Europeans, Russians are the once who are most willing to spend money on travelling ($2569 at an average). In the future they plan to increase their travel budget by 36% - up to $ 3501. Over the last two years Russians went on holidays four times at an average. This is the highest rate among all the regions which participated in the survey. Turkey, Egypt, France, Italy and Spain remain the most popular foreign destinations among Russians.

 

42% of Russian travelers look for the services of travel agencies. An average trip takes them eleven days which is one day longer than in Europe in general.

 

While staying abroad Russians prefer 4-5* hotels and at the same time they don’t favour budget airlines when booking tickets (11% against 21% at an average among Europe).

 

In addition, the survey revealed that by number of trips during the past two years the United States remains the most popular destination in the world (17%). Besides, in 2013 10% of the travelers plan to visit the United States.

 

United Kingdom (12%) and France (12%) continue the list of the most popular destinations of 2011 and 2013. They are followed by China, Singapore, Thailand, and Hong Kong (10%). As for the future, tourism in the Asia-Pacific Region will be increasing, especially taking into account its growing popularity and economic power. 31% of the total number of tourists is expected to visit Asian-Oceanian countries including the recently added to the list of the most popular and promising areas of the region Australia (4%) and Korea (3%).

 

Travelers also included Japan (5% of the respondents) and Australia (4%) along with the United Kingdom (5%) to the four most popular destinations for future trips abroad.

 

The results of the survey make a clear picture of an average traveler. First of all, it’s an experienced traveler: 79% of the respondents traveled abroad for the last two years, making one or two trips a year. 80% plan their trip in advance – about ten days before traveling. 38% of the respondents called spending time with friends and relatives the most popular reason for traveling. Such trips are most often planed independently (42% of the respondents) and last about ten days. 39% of the respondents choose 4-5* hotels when traveling. 69% announced that they travel with their families.
