Moscow hotels know their price

08:07, 2 декабря 2011

One can stay in a Moscow hotel for 433 roubles ($14). As per Rosstat’s data this is the cheapest option, an average one is 2000 roubles ($65). These figures were brought to light by the Head of Moscow City Committee for Tourism and Hotel Industry Mr. Sergey Shpilko during the business-summit Hotel Industry-2011.

“Only four months a year the prices for hotel accommodation in Moscow correspond with the city’s image of the most expensive capital in the world, during these periods numerous business events are held in Moscow. At all other times the hotels are quite affordable” – explained Mr. Shpilko.

According to the research carried out by Britain’s Hogg Robinson Group (HRG), Moscow hotel market remained with world’s most expensive hotel accommodation. An average room goes for around €295/night, which is 1% more compared to 2010. Second and third places went to Geneva (€257) and Zurich (€249) respectively.

That said, the Head of Moscow City Committee for Tourism and Hotel Industry once again pointed out that the situation with Moscow hotels is significantly better than it seems. “Rosstat’s data show that Moscow has 215 hotels with 37.5 thousand rooms. However these figures are not very accurate, since not every accommodation facility has been included in the statistics” – said Mr. Shpilko adding that the fine for failing to provide statistical data is minimal – just 5 thousand roubles.

Moscow authorities claim that the city has over 300 hotels with more than 42.5 thousand rooms. There are plans to develop business-class 1-, 2- and 3-star hotels, module and floating lodging facilities. Besides, the city’s old dormitories will be refurbished and turned into hotels.
