Ryanair to fly to Saint Petersburg in 2013

09:38, 24 декабря 2012

The most famous and controversial low-cost carrier in Europe, Ryanair, is in the middle of negotiations with Pulkovo International airport about the introduction of a new flight: Saint PetersburgDublin. Irish MFA has already applied to Russian aviation authorities for a permission to fly over the country’s territory. In case the negotiations will be successful, Russian tourists will get a chance to travel to Ireland very cheaply. Even though they might have to be standing up during the flight, there’s no way to take luggage on board and the restrooms are not available in the air.

Ryanair is planning to launch the flight between Saint Petersburg and Dublin by summer 2013. The negotiations have been going on from May 2012, as one of the Pulkovo representatives noted. The flight launch is constantly being delayed due to the old terminal working at maximum capacity and for other technical reasons. Anyway, flights to Ireland will not be too cheap – the carrier agreed to work with Pulkovo tariffs. In return Ryanair are expecting the airport to give their new flight some marketing support.

Ryanair’s plans have been known since the end of November 2012, when Irish MFA sent a note to Russian authorities, stating that the carrier is ready to come into the Russian market, and has full government support, RBC informed. Also Ryanair was planning to open a DublinMoscow flight.

“Ryanair is not commenting on gossip and market speculations. But we can confirm that there are negotiations underway with some Russian airports. But so far we are just feeling out the situation. Ryanair is always ready to talk with airports that want to see our low tariffs”, - one of the Ryanair representatives stated earlier.
