08:07, 29 февраля 2012

In 2011 Jurmala was visited by almost 109 thousand tourists. It is just 5% more than in 2010. Nevertheless, some countries, including Russia, showed an increase, which was significantly more than the market’s average. As of today, the Russians account for almost one third of all foreign holidaymakers on this popular Latvian resort – 29.9%. However an average length of their stay doesn’t exceed 3.5 nights, which is slightly less compared to the market’s average figures.

The second largest group of visitors to Jurmala consisted of the Latvians themselves (29.3%). Other countries’ performance was much more modest: Estonia – 9%, Lithuania – 7%, Belorussia, Finland and Norway – 3-4% each, Germany and Sweden – 2-3% each, Ukraine – 1%. Israeli tourists started to enjoy Jurmala as well – last year there were 1344 of them – 56% more than a year before.

Guests from Belorussia stay in Jurmala for the longest time – 15 days – an absolute record. Other nationalities come for less: Germans – 4.7 days, Latvians – 4 days, Russians – 3.5 days, Lithuanians – 1.8 days, Israeli – 2.7 days, Finns, Estonians, Swedes, Norwegians and Poles – 2 days each. Most of them choose leisure and health resort of Jurmala.

Jurmala has a superb location by the Gulf of Riga, not far from the city. And it’s quite convenient to combine a city tour with health treatment at the resort. Recently aol.co.uk, one of Britain’s leading travel web-portals, included Jurmala into the top 10 of world’s most beautiful seaside towns. Jurmala shared this list with such tourist destination as France’s Nice and Biarritz, Spain’s Barcelona, Italy’s Venice, Turkey’s Antalya, South Africa’s Cape Town, USA’s Los Angeles, Canada’s Vancouver and Australia’s Sydney.
