The number of Russian overnights in Hungary increased by almost 20%

According to the official statistics, over the period from January till July 2011 the number of overnights spent by the Russians in Hungary has increased by 18.3 % and reached almost 243 thousand people. This growth leaves behind an average index of the market. The total number of nights spent by foreign tourists in hotels of Hungary in the first seven months of 2011 amounted to over 4.5 million. Thus, it has increased by 7.3% compared to the same period in 2010. The total of 1.769 thousand people visited Hungary during this period of time, which is 5.1% more than over the same period a year ago.

Tourist interest to spa and wellness hotels has increased significantly. 547 thousand overnights were spent in spa hotels and 475 thousand in wellness hotels. This figure exceeds last year’s level by 365%. At the same time the number of tourists in wellness hotels has increased by 40%. Budapest, Heviz and Hajduszoboszlo remained the most popular tourist destinations in Hungary. Moreover, the settlements next to the Lake Balaton are also popular along with Budapest and thermal spas.

Russia was ranked first in the growth of the number of overnights spent in Hungary’s hotels in 2010. Russians spent 358.2 thousand nights, which is more than 35% compared to the previous year. Besides, the Russians spent more time in Hungary than any other tourists; in general, the average length of their stay was 3.6 days, which is 7.6% more than it was in the previous year.
