The first world class hotel opens in Irkutsk

The Marriott International hotel chain has opened its first hotel in Irkutsk – Courtyard Marriott Irkutsk City Center. This is the city's first hotel on such a level. Irkutsk is third city after St. Petersburg and Kazan where the international chain opened hotels in Russia. According to the general manager of Courtyard Marriott Irkutsk City Center, Wolfgang Koler, one of the decisive factors in choosing Irkutsk was its proximity to Lake Baikal. «We believe in the development of Irkutsk as a large tourism center», - Mr. Koler outlined.

The holel was designed by an architect from Irkutsk – Oleg Badula. Courtyard Marriott Irkutsk City Center is mostly oriented on business guests. It positions itself as high quality hotel with moderate prices. It has 208 rooms, most of which have been placed in the deluxe category. One of the key services provided by the hotel is the organization of business events of all formats. The initial project's investment was estimated to be over $25 million.

According to the acting mayor of Irkutsk, Dmitry Razumov, the city's administration provided technological assistance for the project. Many buildings and territories in the area around the new hotel are getting a face-lift, including the yard near the hotel, where new sidewalks have been laid, benches installed and trees planted. This was done on private investment and as another part of the sponsor help, the foresides of three wooden houses near the hotel received a face-lift.

According to the Irkutsk portal, the reconstruction of three monuments located on the Cheremkovsky side-street is to begin in the nearest future. In November new transport stops officially called Interactive Stop Pavilions with digital information boards and internet access will be built on Chkalova street.
