The new summer tourist season brought along international navigation season to Chukotka – reports the Autonomous District’s Authorities via RIA Deita news agency. In 2011 10 ocean cruise liners are to call at the region’s ports. In the beginning of this July “Bremen” cruise ship with foreign tourists on board visited the Providence Bay and Anadyr welcomed “Professor Khromov” along with its foreign guests.

Supervising Services that operate at the entry points carried out massive preparation works in order to speed-up and facilitate border control procedures. Thanks to the new scheme tourists can now spend more time sightseeing – says the Chairwoman of Chukotka Sport and Tourism Committee Mrs. Irina Ryabukhina. In the peak of tourist season the coordinated work on processing tourists’ travel documents is crucial – pointed out Mrs. Ryabukhina. The tourism committee is working in close cooperation with the region’s Federal Security Service’s Border Unit. “Despite the fact that we live close to the state border, Chukotka is open for tourists, especially for challenging ones. Thus in the beginning of July a world record in crossing the Bering Channel on a kite-board was set. “And one can tell that the record was indeed set thanks to the border patrol’s assistance.” – added Irina Ryabukhina.

In 2011 the number of cruise passengers in Chukotka will grow by almost 40%. According to the region’s Sport and Tourism Committee’s data, the tourist season will bring 1300 people to Chukotsky Autonomous District. The liners will cruise in various routes, including The Northern Sea Route – reports Deita.ru.

Apart from the ocean cruises Chukotka offers extreme and business tourism. Most of the foreign tourists in the region come from USA, Germany and Australia.
