Tenerife takes 96% of Russian tourist flow to Canary Islands

The Tenerife Tourist Office has released the statistics on the tourist flow from Russia. Over the first four months of 2013 the number of Russian tourists in Tenerife has added as much as 74% compared to the same period last year. From January to April 2012 the island welcomed almost 19 thousand Russians, while during the same period this year there have already been 33 thousand arrivals.

The Russians still account for just below 2% of the total tourist flow to Tenerife. The leaders are British (27%) and German (14%) tourists.

The Tenerife Tourist Office's reports show that the inbound flow of Russian tourists is constantly growing. In 2012, the total number of visitors from Russia was 140 thousand, which is a quarter more than in 2011. Tenerife takes up to 96% of Russian flow to the Canaries, mostly due to lack of Russian-language services on other islands of the archipelago – Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.

As for the holiday expenses, the Russians are traditionally way ahead all other tourists –they spend an average of around €150 per person every day. However an overall index of travel expenses by the Russians has gone down, as last year the price of a package tour was 7.5% cheaper than a year ago. In 2012, an average package was going for €1100.
