Kostroma region welcomed more that 1 mio million touristsin 2009
More than 1 million tourists visited Kostroma region in 2009. This is 57% more than in 2008. The first Deputy Director of the Department on Foreign Economic and Interregional Relations of Kostroma Maria Shapkina announced it. According to her, the growing popularity of the region on the background of the crisis and the global reduction in tourist flows can be attributed to the complex activities and programs of tourism focus.
"The tourist attractions in the Kostroma region are more than 2,5 thousand monuments of archeology, architecture, history and art, over 300 of them are of federal significance, - said Mrs. Shapkina. According to her, since 2004, Kostroma region, supported by Moscow Government develops Project “Kostroma is birthplace of Snow-Maiden ". A museum, the residence of the Snow Maiden is open. There works a project in the park “Berendeevka” on which base a modern hotel, restaurants and entertainment park will run.A nobleman's mansion Sledovo, the only "Sumarokovskaya elk farm" in the European part of Russia, a "Goose Capital" of Russia Kologriv, the center of the national jewelry industry in the village of Red-on-Volga are also popular with tourists. 90 hotels are ready to welcome the guests of Kostromskaya region. They can accommodate 6 000 guests at the same time.
