Elbrus region welcomed more than 7 thousand tourists

During New Year and Christmas period popular winter resort of Elbrus region received more than 7000 tourists. All tourist camps and hotels of Elbrus region are fully booked. One of the major reasons of such “full house” is the great snow conditions that allowed tourists to enjoy their favorite active winter sports. The new snow canons were working every day at Azau glade. This year besides the traditional skiing, freeride and snowboard Elbrus region offered a new attraction, heliskiing, which is off-trail, downhill skiing on powder snow that is being accessed by a helicopter.

Most of the tourists in Elbrus region are Russian citizens. There are a lot of visitors from Moscow, St.Petersburg, the Krasnodar Territory, Sakhalin, Volgograd and Kaliningrad regions. The income of local people doubles during New Year season. Mainly that is sales of knitted articles, ski equipment rental, apartments lease, restaurant and hotel services. Average hotel accommodation per person starts at 50$ per night.

Gondola lift capacity on Azau is 2400 persons per hour, chair-lift capacity on Cheget is estimated at 530 persons per hour.
