Russia, having left behind Japan, South Korea,Thailand, and the USA, has become the most attractive shopping
destination among Chinese tourists, China's major online travel agency,
Ctrip, reports. The main reason for that is devaluation of rouble, Russia's
national currency.
The
devaluation along with winter, which is traditionally considered
"dead" tourist season, caused a reduction of travel expenses for
Chinese tourists heading for Russia.
According to Ctrip's estimations, prices for consumer goods in Russia
have gone at least 30% down.
Guangzhou residents, for example, are
currently booking trips for February. Visiting Russia in winter allows them to
save up to $650 on their packages. They are going to Russia for two main purposes:
sightseeing and shopping for cell phones, sports apparel of famous brands,
cosmetics, and amber, reports Xinhua News Agency.
