Turkey lost 28% of Russian tourists in May

The numberof Russian visitors in Turkey dropped by 28% or almost 200 thousand arrivals this May compared to the same period last year. The total of 501 thousand Russians visited Turkey in May 2015.

Over 4.38 million Russian tourists came to Turkey in 2014. However the tourist flow has been going down since November due to unfavorable RUR exchange rate. Antalya, Turkey's most popular resort with the Russians, has lost 40% year-on-year over the first four months of 2015.

In April-May 2015, Turkish tourism authorities were offering subsidy to Russian air carriers bringing tourists to Turkey. Russian tour operators were receiving USD 6,000 for each charter flight from Russia to Turkey.
