08:07, 26 августа 2011

Tatiana Khoreshok, the Head of VisitBritain Office in Russia, revealed to Euromag that Russian tourists are now spending more money in Britain. She says that in the first part of 2011 the Russians spent ?46 (€52.2) million, which is ?18 million more than in the same period of the previous year. In 2009 this figure was ?139 (€157.9) million, while the preliminary estimations for 2010 show that it had reached ?191 (€217) million.

The Russians are mostly attracted by the British rich historical heritage and blazing and diverse culture. “For many the image of Britain comes from English lessons, where they study the cultural and historical aspects of the country. That’s why during their first trip to the UK most Russians visit the spots that they are “familiar” with since their childhood: Tower and Tower Bridge, Big-Ben, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Buckingham Palace and so on” – said the Head of VisitBritain Office in Russia. The British monarchy is also very popular with the Russian tourists.

Besides that the Russians come to Great Britain for education and shopping. “As for the young and active audience, it has more dynamic interests – travelling around the entire country, contemporary art and cultural life, various festivals and sport events, night life and clubs” – added Tatiana Khoreshok.
