Travel industry has a strong interest in American Week by Visit USA Russia

The presentations of USA tourist resources, organized by Visit USA Russia Partnership began at the end of the previous week. On September 23rd it was held in Moscow, on 26th in St. Petersburg, the next day in Ufa, on 29th in Kazan, and finally at the end of the month in Nizhny Novgorod.

As Mrs. Margarita Babayan, the head of Visit USA Russia explained, it’ll be the second American Week in Russia. Representatives of the regional travel industry will receive detailed information about tourist opportunities in the USA, beach and ski resorts, excursion and educational programs and the innovations in visa application procedure. “The United States though not yet very popular as a tourist destination for the Russians, is quite interesting and all-season destination.”

There are two tourist stereotypes against the USA – it is way too far and rather expensive. Our aim is to destroy them, for example Caribbean, so popular with the Russians, are longer to fly to than the USA, - says Mrs. Babayan. Moreover, travelling to the United States is becoming more affordable now, because of cheaper airfares simpler visa application procedure.

Margarita Babayan also reminded that now the U.S Embassy issues Russian tourists multiple entry visas valid from one to two years, and three-year visas are negotiable. Having obtained a U.S visa, one can visit Mexico, the Bahamas and several other popular countries.

The tourist flow from Russia to the USA is steadily increasing. Ken Walsh, the commercial attache at the U.S Embassy in Moscow revealed the data from the U.S Trade Department. During the first six months of 2011 the number of Russian visitors to the USA increased by 38% compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 104 854 people. 41% of them came as tourists and a length of stay in the country averaged to 16 nights.

Russia ranks 33rd in terms of the number of tourist arrivals to the USA, nevertheless this is one of the fastest growing markets. “If this dynamics continues, by 2016 Russia will hold a 13th position, and the USA will be welcoming almost half a million of Russian tourists”, - said Mr. Walsh and pointed out the important role of Visit USA Russia in American tourism promotion.

“In Russia and Europe Visit USA is considered rather unusual example of business structure, engaged in promotion of tourism opportunities of the USA. Extensively we function as a national tourist office, but at the same time we are being funded by the members of the partnership”.

“There are now 58 of them, including Russian travel agents, specializing in the destination, American companies, airlines, hotel chains, American regional tourism offices”, - said Mrs. Babayan. According to her words, the Embassy and Consulate General of the U.S. also support this partnership in Russia. Visit USA offices are present in many countries; the brand has been on the market for tens of years.

The partnership began its work in Russia last year and has already carried out many events. “Of course we’re all competitors in business, but anyway we understand that the consolidation of efforts gives us much more than dissociation do”, - said Mrs. Babayan.
