Russians are ready to give away the shirt off their back to travel in style

03:15, 4 февраля 2013

A global airfare search engine Skyscanner.ru carried out a polling among 2400 of its Russian users to find out if they are ready to spend their last money on a vacation.

The money just comes and goes, deem 44% of the respondents. As soon as they lay a hand on a paycheck, they start picking an interesting destination for their holiday. And neither an apartment remodeling, nor a new car can stop them when an opportunity to see new countries and cities hovers before their eyes.

However, 89% of the pollees are ready to set off for a journey only if they have a small part of the monthly wage in their disposal and a chance to obtain leave from work and get good bargain from an airline.

53% claim that their only way to travel is by putting money aside. 39% of respondents say that it takes them from three to five months to scratch up a required amount for a holiday. While 35% manage to collect the needed sum within just a month or two.

As it turns out, two thirds of couples leave the decision on family vacation to a woman. It's her who decides when it's time to hit the road, and where this road should lead to. And there's nothing else to do for a man, than to accede.

The Russians are becoming more and more mobile, too; every sixth traveler toys with the idea to please himself with three or even five vacations in 2013.

The Director of Russian market development of Skyscanner Mrs. Tatiana Danilova pointed out that the survey's results have been good news for her. "The number of Russian citizens, who can afford travelling, is significantly growing; and that's a very positive fact", she said.

In fact, the Russians, Mrs. Danilova says, are ready to spend much more on a vacation than other Europeans; 40% of Russian respondents claim that they can devote from 20 to 40 thousand roubles (€500-1000) per person to their next holiday; 32% can give away even more – up to 60 thousand (€1500). At the same time, the British, for example, are planning to confine themselves to an average of ?832 (39,400 roubles) within the entire 2013.
