Greece’s Zakynthos welcomes less Brits, but more Russians
This summer season proved to be very successful for the travel industry of Greek island of Zakynthos. The Island’s Hoteliers Union statistical data show that the number of foreign tourists has gone up this year. And there were some significant changes within the inbound tourist flow as well.
“The number of the island’s main tourists, the Brits, has obviously gone down this year. But instead we have more tourists coming from Central and Eastern Europe. Particularly, the combined number of visitors from Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands has moved from last year’s 15.6% to 37%. A noticeable increase was shown by Italy, Ireland and Slovenia.
But no one managed to beat the Russians. Local airport’s statistics show that the number of arrivals from Russia grew by 89.6%! And having taken into account those tourists who arrived to the island via mainland’s airports of Athens and Araxos, the number could be easily doubled.
