Riga’s hotels receive growing numbers of Russian tourists

In 2011 Riga’s hotels welcomed 22% more foreign tourists than in 2010 – shows the data of Latvia’s Central Statistics Department (CSD), combined by Riga Tourism Development Bureau. The most significant increase of the tourist flow was recorded from those countries, where the Live Riga promotion campaign was carried out, namely Russia, Estonia, Lithuania, Denmark, Finland, Germany and Norway – reports Regnum agency.

As per CSD’s data, in 2011 the city’s hotels and other accommodation facilities provided lodging for 1063 million foreign guests, which is 21% more compared to the previous year. 77% (823.7 thousand) of the total number of tourists were staying in Riga; this is almost 22% more than in 2010.

As for Riga’s hotels, the largest upturn was shown by the guests from Poland (around 40%), Russia (around 36%), Italy (around 32%), Estonia (around 29%), Lithuania (around 21%), Denmark (around 19%), Finland (around 15%), Germany (14%) and Norway (almost 14%). The number of visitors from Sweden has grown quite insignificantly – for just mere 3%.

That said, out of all of Riga’s foreign guests 15% came from Russia, 11% - from Germany, 10% - from Finland, 8% - from Norway, 7% - from Sweden and Estonia and 5% from Lithuania and the UK.
