Lanta management under criminal investigation

08:07, 9 февраля 2012

The Central Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case involving the management of the Lanta-tour Voyage company suspected of fraud organized by a group of individuals on an especially large scale (part 4, article 159 of the criminal code of the Russian Federation) – according to a statement published on the investigative committee's website.

It says: an inspection prior to the investigation revealed Lanta-tour Voyage's management's unlawful actions have affected over three and a half thousand people, which have suffered substantial financial losses.

«During the period from the end of 2011 to January 28th 2012 the company's management ordered to sign numerous agreements with clients on various tourism services, including flights, transfers to hotels and airports, hotel accommodation and tourist excursions. The fees settled in the agreements were received by the company in full amounts. However, its management has deliberately failed to fulfill its obligations, announcing on January 27 an approaching bankruptcy and keeping the money collected from the citizens», - the statement says.

«The criminal case will establish all individuals within the company's management whose actions violated the rights of Russian citizens both in the Russian Federation and abroad. Those guilty will face all consequences secured by the law, including imprisonment, for their unlawful violations of citizens' rights and the theft of their money. The investigation will also evaluate how lawful were the actions of state officials responsible for looking after the implementation of laws on the tourism industry and the rights of citizens in this sphere. Moreover, the investigative committee is keen to take to all measures for the affected tourists to receive compensation for their damages, financial and moral. Everyone concerned is welcome to contact and file statements to the Main Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia in Moscow, address: 16/2 build. 1 Arbat street. Or dial these numbers: +7 495 690 25 28 and +7 495 690 44 51».

The amount of bankruptcies of travel companies and the mass deception of tourists has increased and, of course, something needs to be done to deal with this. State participation to solve this problem is necessary as well. But with all due respect, where was the Investigation Department one year ago, when another «organized group» under the name of Capital tour deceived at least four times more tourists? And why isn't the Investigative Committee concerned with the fact that the tour operator still hasn't returned money to any of these citizens, while the company's owners continue working in the tourism business? The answer is simple – back then it was still long before the elections. While now there's a fresh case and a great opportunity to show off.

We do hope the investigation will be objective.
