Israel wants Russian tourists back

"We
are now working on implementation of discounted hotel rates for Russian
tourists. The country's hotels are interested in keeping the flow of
tourists from Russia and willing to support the initiative preliminary
scheduled to start around May holidays. Some hotels already offer 10% discount to their guests from
Over the period from November 2014 to March 1, 2015, the
Russian tourist flow to Israel has lost 25%. In 2014, the Russians were second
in terms of tourist arrivals - a mere 1% behind the Americans. Israeli
Tourist Authorities believe that the period of decline is over as the Russian
resume their interest to Israel. Many visitors are expected for Easter and May 9 holidays.
The
Ministry has also announced its intention to subsidize Russian airlines
operating charter flights to Eilat. The new incentive program is targeted at air
carriers, tour operators or other companies with own or chartered aircraft. If
they operate international flights to Ovda airport in Eilat area from October
6,2015 to April 22, 2016, the Ministry will reimburse the carrier €45 per passenger. Total compensation budget for a
single company may reach €1 million. A minimum of 16 flights within the said
period is required to participate.
