On February1, 2014, an international dogsled race, the Volga Quest, is about to finish in Kazan. The city is
bracing to welcome such a unique event for the very first time.
The race
that has started in Togliatti, Samara Region on January 25 gathers together
sportsmen and judges from the Volga Region, Chukotka, Karelia, the USA, Czech
Republic, Norway,
and Sweden.
A total of eight teams are showing their best skills in driving such an
uncommon mean of transport; each team comprises from eight to twelve racing
dogs. The route of almost 650
km long is going to pass through small villages to help
light up its residents' lives and familiarize foreign sportsmen with the
indigenous way of live in the Volga Region. To support the racers, each village
is preparing a warm welcome for them.
The Volga
Quest has already passed the ancient town of Bulgar and the island-town of Sviyazhsk, where
the locals have had a great opportunity to witness the dogsled competition and even
to play with the four-footed athletes afterwards.
The race is
to come to an end near the Cruise restaurant in Kazan at high noon. An entertainment program
has been put together for both the participants and spectators.
